Three days is enough to see the most famous corners of the Dolomites and sleep in two rifugi. This is the short loop that delivers the most icons per hour of walking: Lagazuoi, the Cinque Torri, and Tre Cime di Lavaredo.

Day 1 — Passo Falzarego to Rifugio Lagazuoi

Take the Lagazuoi cable car from Passo Falzarego or walk up the WW1 trail (3 h, 700 m ascent). Spend the afternoon on the open-air WW1 museum on the ridge and watch sunset from the terrace — one of the most-photographed in the Alps. Sleep at Rifugio Lagazuoi (book months ahead).

Day 2 — Lagazuoi to Rifugio Nuvolau via Cinque Torri

Descend through the Galleria del Lagazuoi WW1 tunnel (head-torch required) to Passo Falzarego, then take a low traverse to the Cinque Torri (1.5 h). Climb to Rifugio Nuvolau (45 min, steep) — the tiny stone hut perched on a 2,575 m summit with a 360° view to Civetta, Tofane, Marmolada and Sella.

Day 3 — Drive to Tre Cime, walk the loop

Descend to Passo Giau or Cortina, drive to Rifugio Auronzo above Lago di Misurina (1 h), and walk the classic Tre Cime loop counter-clockwise (10 km, 3–4 h, 420 m ascent). Lunch at Rifugio Locatelli with the north faces in your face. Drive back to Cortina or Venice for the night.

FAQ

Can you see the Dolomites in 3 days?

Yes, if you stay around Cortina and pick the three most photographed spots: Lagazuoi, the Cinque Torri area, and Tre Cime di Lavaredo. You'll sleep in two rifugi and drive between the bases.

Do I need a car for a 3-day Dolomites trip?

Strongly recommended for a short trip. Public buses run between Cortina, Passo Falzarego and Misurina but are slow and infrequent — a rental car turns a 6-hour transfer day into 90 minutes.

Is 3 days enough for the Dolomites?

Enough for the highlights, not enough for a hut-to-hut traverse. If you have the option, take 5–7 days for the Alta Via 1 or Sella Ronda Trek.
