Skiing Val Gardena: pick a village, then a place

New here? What is the "ski loop"?

The Sellaronda is a one-day ski loop around the Sella mountains: 44 km in all, 23 km on skis and 21 km on lifts. You do not have to ski it. It only decides which village makes it easiest.

Skiing in Val Gardena: questions people ask

Where can I find the Val Gardena ski map?

The tourist board valgardena.it publishes an interactive ski map and PDF maps of Val Gardena, the Sellaronda and the Val Gardena Ronda, under its Ski resort pages.

Where do I book ski school or ski hire?

The tourist board valgardena.it lists ski schools and ski rental shops under its Ski resort pages. You can also ask your hotel. In early season, from 3 to 19 December 2026, its Superpremière offer includes ski schools at a special price.

Is Val Gardena the same as Ortisei?

No. Val Gardena is the valley. Ortisei, S. Cristina and Selva are its three villages, and they share one ski area.

What is the Sellaronda?

A one-day ski loop around the Sella mountains: 44 km in all, 23 km on skis and 21 km on lifts. You end where you started. You do not have to ski it, it only decides which village makes it easiest.

Which village is easiest for the Sellaronda?

Selva. You can start in either direction from the village. From S. Cristina it takes two lifts to reach the loop, and from Ortisei five lift rides.

How much is the ski pass?

For 2026/27 the Dolomiti Superski pass, which covers the whole ski loop, costs 453 euros for an adult for 6 days in high season and 89 euros for one day, according to Dolomiti Superski. Other seasons and local passes have other prices.

Is Val Gardena good for beginners?

The tourist board says it has slopes for all levels, and that the Alpe di Siusi area, with its gentle runs, is particularly popular with beginners and families. If that is you, Ortisei has the gondola up to Alpe di Siusi.

Is the snow reliable?

The tourist board advertises a 100% snow guarantee from snowmaking. That is its own claim: it does not say how this is measured.

Is Ortisei a bad choice for skiing?

No, it is a different trip. It has Seceda and Alpe di Siusi on its doorstep and the longest run in South Tyrol, La Longia, back into town. It is the wrong base only if the Sellaronda is the reason you are coming.

How were the distances measured?

Places to stay and lifts come from OpenStreetMap. We route the walk from each building to the nearest main lift and round the result. Treat every number as about right, not surveyed.

Have you stayed in these hotels?

No. They are on the page because of where they stand. Rooms, food and service are for the reviews on Booking.com.
