Can you hike Alta Via 1 in 7 days?
Yes — the first 7 of the 11 official days, from Lago di Braies to Rifugio Coldai under the Civetta. You skip the harder Schiara finish, which is the long descent to Belluno.

Seven days is the most popular Dolomites trip length. Long enough for a proper Alta Via 1 section (Lago di Braies to Rifugio Coldai), short enough to keep your work calendar happy.
Each day is 4–7 hours of walking. Bookings open in March; secure the rifugi before anything else.
Fly into Venice (VCE) or Innsbruck (INN). Train to Calalzo di Cadore (from Venice) or Dobbiaco (from Innsbruck), then the Pragser-Wildsee bus to Lago di Braies. From Listolade or Belluno at the end, trains run back to Venice (2 h).
Total: ≈82 km walking, ≈4,800 m of ascent. Pack stays under 8 kg. Daily ascents are real but spread out — anyone fit for a long hill-walking week can complete it.

The 7-day version covers Braies to the Civetta — the most-photographed section. The full 11-day version adds Carestiato, Pramperet, Pian de Fontana and the Schiara descent to Belluno, which are the wildest and least-busy days.
Roughly €500–€700 per person in 2026: €70/night half-board × 7 nights + transport. Add €100 if you rent a via ferrata kit for variants.
